Moving to All Grain & BIAB

Hey Guys, after two years of kits, been buying some additional kit and doing lots of reading.

Recently purchased the Ace Digital Mash-Tun/Boiler  30ltr.  came with false bottom and grain bag so thinking of giving BIAB a lash first, have a grain kit and all at home waiting.

Any advice for a first timer for BIAB ! 

had a new shed built recently and have secured a corner where I now have a fridge, and just need to build a worktop table for that corner,  have Inkbird on the way and have Inuslated Mash tun cooler also sitting on my shelf so all set to go nearly.

The BIAB is appealing to me for time reasaons.

Main query I have is I fired up the boiler the other night to check for volume of water etc. and time to get to temp etc.

Should I leave it set to the temp and elements on to help keep temp during mash in BIAB  or turn off fully and insulate and hope it keeps temp.

Will take on board any advice

Take notes on everything and after a while you will know what info is important. This will allow you to build an equipment profile so that as you plan other brews you will be more accurate in your final beer.

Used to have the same Ace boiler. I found that having the element firing while mashing caused wort to scorch on the element. Only way around this is to recirculate with a pump, or else manually stir while it's firing. Insulating it with a lagging jacket allowed me to bring it to temp and leave it alone. As long as the lid is on and lagging jacket wrapped over it, you won't lose too much heat.

ta, the element is beneath the kettle bottom now so not exposed and they've supplied a very sturdy false bottom with it

Yes, that's the one I used to have. My point still stands. If the wort isn't moving, the localised heating will cause it to scorch onto the bottom.

got ya, so right temp, turn off and wrap up well to keep temp for the mash duration !
