So what did you drink for International Stout Day?

Cask of Blackrock Stout was on in the B&C, so I had a pint of that, before having a few pints of Beamish in the Lord Edward. I don't rag on the macros for the sake of it, but the Beamish was a disappointment. I remembered it as being roasty. If it was a blind taste test I would have said it was Guinness.

I was classy, I had a few cans of Bavaria.....I didn't wake up under a bridge and I'd hardly pissed myself at all this morning.

I am an unapologetic lager fan, it is the pinnacle of brewing in my mind.

Bavaria is not actually a bad lager, there...I said it.

I kind of agree with that.

(The other bit I don't! :o)

Value for taste, it can't be beaten.

The whole lager is great thing is a hard sell in the craft brew scene, but that said...I see very few craft breweries doing a real cracking lager. <edit> make that none actually....8 degrees Ochtoberfest is not a standard lager so not counted in this.

QuoteI have found Carrig lager has steadily improved to the point where I will drink it regularly now. Plus Andy Horn and his busines partner Morgan Smyth, are really top notch blokes.

I must give it a try, I find that while it is commendable that they use local ingredients, that lager should have noble hops or don't bother calling it a lager.....is that just me?

I don't like Belfast for this reason, or any of the local macro offerings either come to think of it, unless it's import it's rubbish normally.

QuoteI agree about noble hops. What makes you think they aren't?

Well I'm not commenting on the one you just mentioned, but I've found it's a general problem I have with more local lagers.

Carrig is yet to be tested and judgement passed on it :)

I rarely drink lager, when I do it's normally Brooklyn, Sam Adams or Budvar...

For stout day I had a Black Rock and a couple of Beamish.

I had planned on drinking international stouts only, but I got lazy in my search, the only one I saw was Left hand milk stout but I opted for a cask stout instead!

I had a few pints of a porter I have on, enjoyed them so much I've decided to do my 1st rebrew and enter it in the competition  ;D

re: the Lager boys, any of you had Crean's I believe it's a decent lager, never sold more than 10 days in the keg  :o
Non modo......sed etiam
