What can we expect?

Brian Lenihan cut excise duty in 2009 by 60c on a bottle of wine and 12c on a pint. I think we can expect these to go back up, although in my own opinion if beer goes up much more in pubs it'll do more damage than good as many places already charge €5+ for a pint.

The costs of malt and hops have shot through the roof recently, which won't help either. Especially micro brewers who don't have supply contracts and pay market rates (any micros reading: maybe time to strike a contract and start hedging, like the macros do).

I reckon it's also only a matter of time before homebrew goods get special tax treatment.

I the only beer or alcohol related budget submission on the list was from NOffLA

is this because of ( what I presume ) would be relatively low volumes of purchase compared to the Macros - if so why don't they come together to form some micro co-op and do group buys amongst themselves like we do but on a larger scale - surely base malts and what not would be fairly similar ?

what am I missing here ?
