RAH:

I got my original rhizomes from these in Germany:

2 years ago they were about €4-50 a plant delivered!!

They are very good! Check the site ( its available in English - thats the link I sent ) Now is the time to order as some varieties sell out.

However as others have posted the come next March, this is the time to give away some rhizomes

some of the farming community should consider growing hops as an alternative crop , anybody ever see guaranteed irish beer? even though guiness is seen to be irish the big question is IS IT?  :-?

Spud395

Simple answer, no.
Diageo (Guinness) are a huge international company.
Some of their grain is Irish grown and malted however,  which is more than can be said for some of the Irish micros.

I guess the question is whats Irish?
Non modo......sed etiam

featherbed_brew

thats where the logo of guaranteed irish comes in! would be a good selling point for the micro brewers imo.

Spud395

Its a bit away yet the only Irish malts available at the minute are pale ale malt (only 1 batch malted yet and not much demand for it ) and Lager malt.
No specilty malts yet or no plans to change this, which would drasticly reduce the beer styles that could be brewed.

QuoteIt goes without saying that the English varieties will do a bit better (unless you're growing in a poly tunnel or a green house), but the US varieties can do well aswell.

You won't need  any rhizomes till next year, but I have Goldings, Fuggles and Challenger, and I can give you a cutting from those.

Other people, especially Taf, have many US varieties.

Post again in spring, and you should be able to get some rhizomes without having to buy any.

Hi, I am new to this forum.  I am living in Tenerife and looking for hops rhizomes to grow here.  I like how Tube mentioned the idea of trading, seems a better way to propagate plants and grow a community of brewers.  In the mainland of Spain I have only found one hop farm selling their rhizome cuttings for 14 euros!! ridiculous.

Maybe some one would be interested in an Island to Island trade?

By the way, the home brewing community is growing here.

richieh

you're a bit too far south for hops in tenerife, they grow usually 35-55 degrees, tenerife is only 28, I think it's the hours of daylight in the growing season is the problem. give it a go though, order from Eickelmann, they shouldn't be so expensive and should ship.

Greg2013

Are ye saying that if i were to order hops now i would not get them until March 2014? Was thinking of doing this myself tbh as i am really getting into the whole outdoor thing LOL

Tube posted that in October 2012!!.

If you order now from Eickleman you will get them in about 10 days time. Idreal time to plant them
