Tube wrote Today at 10:38am:
Question should be really what have NHC and Beoir in common, and aside from some members, not a lot.

NHC is a grass roots organisation, driven by its members in a direction decided by the members, with only one interest: homebrew. Beoir has fixed policies (constitution) and is driven by two people.

I thought beoir had elections and voted on issues with members getting a vote, dont see how that is driven by two people? This place seems equally as driven by 1 person if thats the case

I feel its important that DC brewing gets some of the history, questions like these should be openly discussed not just for DC brewing but also for other newer members instead as to the relationship between Beoir and NHC.

There is no bias in my comementary below just the facts;

Beoir was and is first and foremost an Irish Craft Beer support group. There were a lot of members on there that also homebrewed as can be seen in the archive and in fact I started there too and continue to post.

There was a scenario where certain members of Beoir wanted to faciltate a group Corny keg group buy using Beoir bank account and it was declined on the basis that Beoir is not a homebrewing website.

These members on Beoir then decided to set up their own website to faciltate Homebrewing and group buys.

At present there is a definitive hierarchy in Beoir and even if he was a little condescending Tube was correct there are defined roles.

The is no hierarchy in the NHC, Tube may have driven certain apsects of the NHC but he didn't deliver them and if you ever wondered what goes on in internal operations, its a free for all where a core 10-15 contribute as a collective and amazingly it works really well.
There are one or two stronger personalities, but they aren't taken too seriously.

In terms of our relationship with Beoir, some wont like me saying it but they are our Parent organisation, but eventually we all leave the nest.

Any questions?

As Ciderhead has said, I concur.  This issue needs to be put to bed once and for all. The 2 organizations have 2 clearly defined roles and should be seen as so. Members joining this club are asked to contribute their knowledge and knowhow to help other members improve their hobby and help become better at the art of brewing and all done with the fun and enjoyment that this brings. :)

If Shane had won the election to General Secretary of Beoir last year would we even be here on the NHC? I expect the NHC would be a sub forum on beoir. It appears to me that the NHC was a very successful coup against beoir

You may have a point!
However, I chose not to look at things that way.
The NHC was set up to facilitate certain needs!

In my opinion, what we have here is an excellent resource for the benifit of homebrewers.

Both Ciderhead and Dempsey are correct.  This issue needs transperancy but needs to be put away!  We dont want this turning into as tube says: "a pissing contest" or least a Beoir bashing thread.

Guys the only reason I posted was for information purposes not a pissing competition as like new members of the NHC I didn't know where we originated from either.

I am a homebrewer first and foremost and have a secondary interest in craft beer.

We very much plough our own furrow now and Beoir in is in our distant past.

Post closed.

One thing I'll say lads is that I'd like to see a bit more cordiality towards Beoir. A lot of people on here are members of both organisations and I frankly find it a bit insulting when there's constant digs at Beoir. We should all be friends here.

I think that people take some of the digs that are thrown towards Beoir very seriously, there is no anti-Beoir line at the NHC, one or two high profile members throw a couple of digs in that direction. But you must remember that there is no one person who runs the show here and that you can't take what one person says as an official line. (There are currently around 15 Architects that will be increased to 20+ in the coming weeks all most (looking at you ciderhead) of whom contribute to to the running of the place.)

Personally I am a member of both and I see that continuing going forward. Beoir has produced some great things, the beoirfinder App that was developed by Andrew is something that always comes to mind.

I also believe that Beoir is not perfect, but this forum is not the place to discuss Beoir: http://www.beoir.org/community/
Not that these kinds of discussions are not to be had here, I just don't see why people think there is an us versus them. A lot of us are also them.

Lets leave it at that and save this conversation for another day, Padraic can you lock this now?
