I've had a Biko fridge freezer donated to me which I want to turn into a fermentation fridge. I've unscrewed the freezer and now I can see the connection to the motor. Can anyone give me advice on how to proceed from here?

Photos attached. Cheers!

iPad won't let me save multiple images - sorry for replies

What exactly are you trying to achieve.

That shapped thing is the Ice Box of the fridge. It is what makes the fridge cold. If you damage it or the two copper pipes running to the compressor at the back of the fridge then the fridge is dead.

Assuming you just want a bit more space you may be able the re-orientate it on the back wall of the fridge.

It would be very difficult to modify its shape with out  running the risk of fracturing a pipe.

The lower part of the fridge has a ridge coming from the back which means the fermenter won't fit so the door won't close. There is not enough space above it to rest the fermenter on the ridge unless I remove the freezer box.  Does this mean the fridge won't work as a fermenting fridge?

Yeah I've been waiting a while though and none have come around (for free at least).  I'm itching to make a helles.

There seems to be some give in the copper pipe feeding the ice tray.  Do you think I could flip it 180 degrees so it is against the ceiling?  That should give me the space for the fermenter...

Thats just what I suggested just bend the tubing gently and it may work.

few on adverts at the moment for 100 would probably accept 70-80. they are in pristine condition

Yeah thanks, I've been hoping for a freebie!

Someone (Will) remind me how the ice box on these things work again.

I mean how is it separated from the rest of the fridge. Are there 2 separate cooling circuits or something?

The cooling coil which cools the fridge is continued to the top of the fridge and folded in through the metal panel that forms the cabinet to make the ice box. If you break the pipe you will have to throw out the fridge. :'(

Heres the simple circuit:

Vapor Compression Cycle – A: hot compartment (kitchen), B: cold compartment (refrigerator box), I: insulation, 1: Condenser, 2: Expansion valve, 3: Evaporator unit, 4: Compressor
