One of my fav. Eartha Kitt songs is "Santa Baby" ( If you are less than 50 years old you should download it! )
See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFMyF9fDKzE

The Lyrics go like this:

Santa Baby, slip a sable under the tree, For me.
been an awful good girl, Santa baby,
so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa baby, a 54 convertible too,
Light blue.
I'll wait up for you dear,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Et Cetera!!

OR as we say in the North County:

Santa Baby, slip a microscope under the tree, For me.
Been an awful busy brewer, Santa baby,
so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa baby, a Gas Chromtagraph too,
Wouldn'y you?.
I'll wait up for you dear,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

In theory it can do Alcohol (abv) analysis, Ethanol/Methanol comparissons, Hop AA, BA and Oill Anlysis, Drugs in Urine( :()

GLC is probably the most useful analytical tool to look for and identify known/unknown compounds and their amounts ( qualitative as as well as quantitaive results ).

IR/UV and MS are much more about identification of an unknown compund ( IR/UV = Chemical bonds ) (MS = Atomic composition - quantitative )
