Hi Mick

I was thinking of getting the 50l pot from the homebrew builder (www.homebrewbuilder.co.uk) for £55, they will also cut holes in it for you to put in heating elements or temp probes. The makro 36l pot is £44.99 online at the moment, I would be inclined to think that for £11 extra and get a bigger pot for future brewery expansion.

Matt, a brew day building equipment would be ace, I would be keen to build a chiller.

Looking forward to the meet on Friday.

Cheers

Re: the brew day equipment build:
If anyone wants a demo on how to make a cheap but effective sparge arm for less than a couple of quid then let know. The only real skill is in keeping a steady hand when knocking the holes in using a hammer and small nail :)

If this equipment build idea's got legs (and it appears it does), maybe we should start a new thread for people to post what they'd like to see made or like to demo.

i've been thinking we should do a belfast brewday equipment build soon one month- maybe include making a bunch of wort coolers in that day? would love to do that as well as modify some kegs...

Yeah I'd love to make a wort cooler - would save me so much time!

So I spoke to the folks in Germany. Waiting to hear about shipping costs but it looks like I'm going to get a 50L which won't be hob friendly and will necessitate a gas burner. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't sort out a mash tun now too rather than doing a few BIAB. Hmmmm, you folks are already costing me money...

Looks like a very useful site!
Will bookmark it up

The lovely German folks will do a 50l for €59 including shipping. Home brew builder is £55 plus £12 shipping which takes me towards the German one, except that the English guys will put a tap in it for £30extra (handy) and can do heating elements (although I think a gas burner will do me), thermometers, sight glass etc too. Still a bit confused. I want to be sure that whatever I invest in now will serve me well for a good few years.

matthewdick23

we could upgrade the german ss pot on the belfast equipment build day together. id recommend stainless, maintains heat better and heats up faster

sub82

Is it easy enough to do? Would be really interested in seeing how it's done.

matthewdick23

should be easy enough- esp for the tap fitting. ud just needa bring the materials and equipment

Bazza

What do you use to cut holes in the ss, Matthew?

I've been toying with buying qmax cutters off Amazon but if you've already got something to do the job I'd pay you in beer for a borrow. Been toying with buying a ss pot myself (around 30-32L) to turn into a boiler so need to cut 2 holes for elements and 1 for a tap.

matthewdick23

but you can pay me in beer anyways. i'll give you a highfive for some beer...

Bazza

Haha!

Yeah, did anyone think to ask a spark or a plumber to the next brew day?
