Was there 4 or 5 litre flasks available in the last GB Shiny? Not enough head space in my 3 litre flask for 3 litre starters. It always makes a mess of my stir plate.

3 L starter  :o, you shouldn't need those now with o2 unless you are brewing 10 Gal batches?

Yeah Im brewing 10 gallon batches  8)
On tap: Flanders, Gose,
Fermenting: Oatmeal Brown, 200ish Fathoms,
Ageing: bretted 1890 export stout.
To brew:  2015 RIS, Kellerbier, Altbier.

Yeah I was going for a middle of the road 35mm x 6mm stirbar which would work across the board.

If you want a big starter then just move up into a demijohn. Just don't try to use boiling wort/water in it.

If a DJ is too small use a 10 litre fermenting bucket!

A big stir bar will work its magic in one of these as well coz they have nice curved bottom
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

Ive tried a demijohn with my stir plate. I cant get my stir bar to spin on the domed bottom. I cant use any of the larger stir bars Ive got since either without re aligning the magnets on my fan.

@ Bren - do they fit in a larder fridge?

the starter debate could go on for years or decades :) ;) :D ;D some people swear by it and others just pitch dry yeast into well aerated wort.

maybe at the next national championships we could collect data for scientific purposes to answer these questions.

I only use dry yeast or some krausen ( yeast foam) from a previous batch. I never ventured into the yeast starter thingy yet.

Going in pairs for use with stir bar but that's fine. If you are still across the road from WIt let me know by pm and we will sort it out for next week ;D

Be careful with handling them as they break really easy due to their desire to attach to anything metallic.  I would advise wrapping them individually in bubble wrap.
