I'm almost out of pale malt and considering there was a group buy only recently, where is good to buy base malt outside of group buys?

I was looking for a 25kg bag.

Ciderhead

Nope just Homebrew shops:(

Found this the other day. www.truebatchbrew.com

That looks like a shocking amount of cold break material at the bottom!  ???

Too much copper finings causes that Shane.

Copper finings what are those Eoin? Is that a charged metal particulate?

Any finings that go into the boil(copper) as Greg says, protofloc is an example. People don't know the proper dosage rates especially on small batches like that. An overdose causes fluffy yeast and break, it ferments fine but is wasteful cos the yeast is like a sponge at the bottom.

Buy a precision scales and dose at 30-50mg per litre. For 60 litres normal gravity I add 1.8g, higher gravity add more.

This is after advice from Graham Wheeler, I've never had fluffy yeast since.

That would explain why half my BIAB stout disaster was sponge and pure waste.

Ok so for the guy that only uses Irish moss or whirlfloc, is this why they say half a tablet at 10 mins in 22 litres is fine?

Ciderhead

Ok just reading about it's it's an artificial version of Irish Moss.

Enhanced somehow rather than artificial, I have it as granules and it is seaweed, just has something added.

That's possibly too much, I weigh it.   I suspect  1/5th of a tablet is closer.
