We had the Diageo brewers in the B&C once and after tasting a Kinnegar one of the fellas said that he liked it but it wasn't a session beer and that over in Diageo their aim is to make beers that people can "knock 7 or 8 back in one sitting".

Funny how the Diageo marketing guy didn't say that to the surgeon giving out about a spike in A&E visits on the radio yesterday morning

Yesterday i did a talk to a group of unemployed men who through whoevers fault is irrevalent, ended up unemployed, divorced and in various other social dilemmas including national service in the Joy.
I was promoting healthy eating and healthy drinking with an aim to improve their interest in the social aspects of health. Although I was on sensitive territory re speaking about drink to a group of whom were recovering from drink related harm, the enthusiasm of the group and the organisation leaders was palpable.
I am following up on request with them attending my ranch to talk about 'Grow your own' and 'brew your own' with a focus on health and appreciation of drink.

theres no dought guinness want drink sold in volume therefore more profits and happier guinness loyalist publicans and this is a health issue for sure and I heard the article where the guinness rep suggested that people can come out for the music and not drink at all...Ultimatly hes right we all have choices to enjoy a pint or two or get sloshed...

the Surgeon general if thats who he was, came across to me as a prohibitionist as many EU leaders are...

We need to promote and encourage sensible drinking via our club thats why I keep emphasising the social aspects of  the Homebrew club. While events are increasing in numbers theres still too few social meets and as a previous post, kids and wives would benefit greatly.
On a closing point I showed a slideshow yesterday about Wine versus real beer from a health viewpoint with jaw dropping results.. many people firmly believe that wine is not only good for ya but way healthier than beer.. thats a myth that needs to be remove the opposite is actually true.

Sorry must be on the wrong thread...

Could you give more detail about this Bren? I teach wine appreciation classes and always mention about two glasses of red wine a day, with the anthocyanins good for the heart. But I've never heard any health claims for beer. Not trying to be funny, just genuinely interested.

And sorry for hijacking the Liffeyers thread.  :P

somebody changed it to slag off Guinness again and the harm theyre doin by allowing us to drink large volumes of low flavour beer and making us unhealthy...as Im a health promoter I had to respond in defence of Guinness  ::)  we dont have to drink it...its a free country ;)

brenmurph

@ Dunkel
So u back up my point very well...isnt it funny how that perceptions exists..?   So are the wine marketeers (inc Gilbeys who sold us the worst S***e possible for decades)  better at marketing that Guinness?
BTW I didnt say wine was bad :)

For everyones info beer is exceptionally nutritious, one of the highest concentrations of Folate on the planet, one of the few sources of readily available silica, rich in soluble fibre, probiotic yeast and lower in calories that typical portion of wine, coke, milk and fruit juices...and thats for starters...

Ill send u some quality into some of it actually endorsed by EU health leaders / governments

This is a significant marketing tool for us, however we have to emphasise moderate which means about a litre per day.  And we will live 2-7 years longer as well as having less heart disease, osteoporosis and so on

So other than the competition entrants...what beers will we have tomorrow? I think Il Tubo mentioned he might steal some barrel project for us to taste?
I've a first version of a rochefort clone that I made. It's not a great as a  clone in terms of likeness but quite nice all the same.
