You can't see unread messages unless you go onto a browser.
It's only good for on the move where you want to do a bit of catching up.
I'm in no way saying that anything needs be done with it as I believe it may be unfixable, just curious...

I think leave it as is, no sense in pulling the plug.
There is no real alternative, just make a point of getting to your keyboard and catching up periodically.
