Made my first AG Hefeweizen last week.
OG 1050
It is now 6 days and still no foaming. :-/ Temp around 18-19 deg.
Recipe state Wyeast Labs 3333 but used Mauribrew Weiss Yeast.
Made a yeast starter of about 1.1L(OG 1.046) and kept it on the stirplate for a day.
Any suggestions on not being active?

BB date on the Yeast? Not stored in fridge and Murdered :o
Not on stirplate long enough 36-48 hours for me, did you see signs of life, nice smells to confirm you were making beer
What was temp you pitched at v's wort, thinking thermal shock here
Not all fermentations are active, measure gravity.
Even if it does kick off now too late for off flavours etc  :(
I always have a dry packet backup just in case rather than losing all that wort
Sorry for your loss :'(

Something similar happened to me a few weeks ago when i was making one - I was using WLP300 though. I made a 1L starter and there was no action for about two days. I wonder does this strain of yeast just have quite a long latency time?

In total the yeast I used had about 3 days to multiply and become viable and strong, and then i pitched it into about 18l of wort. Maybe the fact that it is now faced with such a large volume of beer to work on it is seeing the same latency but scaled up - so something is happening but you can't see it yet?

Also - just to be sure - how old was the Weiss yeast you used? You kept it within temps and all that too presumably? Tis easily done - the old pitching yeast into hot wort mistake!
To brew: Bohemian Lager, Munich Dunkel, Oatmeal / Milk Stout, Hefeweizen
Fermenting: Imperial IPA
Conditioning:
Serving:Munich Helles (Helles Bells), Oatmeal Stout

Can't remember the use by date but it was still way under the use by date. The day that I got it in the post was the day I made the starter.Wort about 17 deg and starter about 19-20 deg.
I have a packet of "Coopers Wheat beer" yeast. What about pitching it in. Maybe do a hydrometer test ?

6 days in its a basket case, anybody else want to comment
I suppose you have nothing to lose, I'm sorry for your trouble :-/

Can speak to this particular yeast but my experience of weiss yeasts is that they go off like rockets so it doesn't sound great.

A good sniff will tell you a lot.

Check the gravity to be sure to be sure.

If you have a backup yeast then pitch it. I am afraid I don't have a Hw yeast trub in the fridge. What about James or someone else from the North County?. I could knock up a HW starter in about 3 or 4 days for you.
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

OK check the SG and it is 1.011. So down from 1.050 to 1.011.
No funny smells and no sour taste(I'm no expert). Will keg and see what happens. ::)

The wonders of home brewing! It's weird it showed no sign of a krausen though! I had a sneaking suspicion that might happen, as it sounded similar to how my starter began - it was doing everything it should've but I couldn't see it happening! Ah well - hopefully it'll taste alright when its done, all is not lost!
