Guys,

Just trying to get my head around this LME stuff. From doing extensive research .. (5 minutes on google) - I have this

Grain : LME : DME
1 : .75 : .60

now lets lock in the LME at 2 cans (2 x 1.5) - so thats 3kg of LME.

Thats (Roughly)

4.33kg Grain : 3kg LME : 2.4kg DME

So I'll get a price from HBW for 18 cans of LME

They retail at 5.95€ so I'm aiming for <5 with shipping included.

I talked to John and bunged an email to brian ..

I'll let you know the progress.

If we use 3 kg is lme over the dme you will need another 1.5kg of base malt to compensate

Great news lads -

Brian from HBW got back and we have the LME. I will place the order today.
So I have 2 cans for each of the 9 batches. Might also have some notty as well.
The rate is very favorable and there is a condition

- all will be revealed at the next meetup  ;)

Just getting back to the maths... I had a look quickly at the difference between 3kg DME and 3kg LME and on brewersfriend it's suggesting that the extra base malt needed would be around 800g (assuming 70% efficiency). So what do you think? Will we just up the recipe by 1kg?

Marris Otter 5.75 Kg
Amber Malt 0.50 Kg
Crystal 80 0.50 Kg
Light LME 3.00 Kg

(excuse the imperial units on the picture)

Going by the last batch brew I think everyone ended up short of the members so I suggest we calculate working off 60-65% efficiency.

Agreed.  I'll be aiming to over shoot a bit this time.  I was a bit under last time.
