Hi there,

I just discovered that three mini kegs that I had filled to carbonate last Saturday night have popped their pressure valves. Unfortunately I am not sure how long they have been there but probably less than a few days. There was a mixture of yeast and beer on the top of the kegs and it had not dried out. I can only guess that I filled the kegs too much or else I used too much priming sugar. Either way the question I have is should I assume the worst and chuck them out? It's heart breaking really as this was 15 litres of a batch of 23 litres. I have small co2 bulbs that I can use to artificially carbonate it if the beer it's completely flat due to the tops popping off.

Any advice welcome,

Never chuck anything out without first:

1. Smell it - If Ok proceed to step 2
2. Taste it - If Ok two choices:

A: Fit the dispenser, pop in a CO2 bulb chill/carb/drink
B: If you over primed then its may still be active so bung the bungs back in and leave a week. Pop a bung, if carbed then go back to option A. If no life/sparkle add a bit more priming sugar. Hope for best! Return to Option A a week later

Whatever you brew at home, even if a bit off/weird is not capable of killing you!

BTW: This does not apply to mouldy old rye grain that has been contaminated by the Ergot fungus - google at your pleasure with "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" playing in the background. Hint hint
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

Hi Will

Thanks turns out that I was the author of my own misfortune as I put the plastic inserts for the keg in the wrong way round (that's what I get for bottling and kegging after midnight). I smelt the beer and I seemed ok,.did not think'mof tasting it before I put the bungs and inserts back.in. Will give it another two weeks in the warmth to make up for the lost time and then.might try it. If it's off then so be.it.  Thanks for the advice.

Must admit to having freaked at the prospect of losing that much beer especially considering the premium I have to place on free time.
