QuoteWe can certainly try :)

I'll email off the form tomorrow and we'll see what happens.

Good man.  :)

Are any of the lads on the list here up for doing the upcoming course?
I.e. the  one that you need to be in for  the 8th Feb,  and it's on in Cork end of Feb?

I'm definitely on for this but couldn't fork out a grand. 500 for the GBC prep seems reasonable. I actually have the coursework from the brilliantbeer site. What's important about this stuff is understanding how the exam is presented. The IBD exam is focused heavily towards British brewing practice and they expect you to answer from a British perspective. If you want to come away with the cert this course seems indispensable.

If it is a British based course, make sure you start with,"and this is when you add the crystal malt" :D :D

Dempsey's right lads. I'd advise you get prepping on your decoction mash diatribe already. Any knowledge on how to give out about kegging over cask is a bonus too.

Hi Thomas,

This Certificate in Brewing is open to employees working in the food and drink sector, or to sole traders operating a micro/home brewery.  Job seekers may apply for a free place – subject to availability.
Please note that we cannot accept individuals to the programme or individuals whose employer is not a member of the Taste 4 Success Skillnet.

Regards

Breda

So if I'm willing to pay the money I still can't do the course?  :-?

That's how it seems to be, so it's hard to persuade myself that I would be worth doing, when I have zero change of getting on it anyway. I'd say that also applies to anyone else who is employed, but not in the food and drink industry. Not sure why it actually matters if we were willing to pay oursleves. Regardless of that, still not sure I could justify €500 at the moment.

I just noticed the highlighted bit from irish_goats post.
So I just need to register as a sole trader then to tick all the boxes.

So I shouldn't have registered a business name then?  8-)

It sort of didn't.
Tue people organizing this were Jen to deal with business owners only plus
there was not enough interest posted here to make a difference.
I am going to explore the 'direct to IBD' route to see if there's any possibilities there.
In terms of cost, (We're home brewers do we're cost conscious) home study its the obvious least cost route.

I'm sure the above means something but can you either translate from Spanish or post again when you are not pissed and back on the auld sod :)

Is this the only brewing course available in Ireland? What exactly qualification do you receive for all that money?

General Certificate in Brewing (if you pass the exam), It can be had cheaper by distance learning by going to IBD directly. This is an intensive revision type course that is supposed to be good at getting you prepared for the exam. (it included the exam entry fee)
