Black IPA .. with wheat, crystal and choc ..

Looking at this for tomorrow - using up a few remaining malts ..
Dont think I have any of the carafra special II / III (that's the husk-less I think) - to make a true Black IPA

Batch Size: 22 litres
SG: 1.060
TG  1.011

Boil time: 60 minutes

Grain Bill
4500g Pale Ale
450g Crystal 150 Bairds
450g Wheat
110g Chocolate Malt

Boil/Hops
15g  Magnum at 60min
07g Columbus  at 12min
07g Warrior   at 11min
07g Columbus  at 10min
07g Warrior   at 09min
07g Columbus  at 08min
07g Warrior   at 07min
07g Columbus  at 06min
07g Warrior   at 05min
1 X Whirlfloc tablet & immerse chiller
07g Columbus  at 04min
07g Warrior   at 03min
07g Columbus  at 02min
07g Warrior   at 01min

10g Columbus  at Flameout
10g Warrior   at Flameout

That will probably come out more brown IPA, with only that amount of chocolate. Just googled the crystal 150, and that looks to be the darkest type, so it might get you there, but not sure it will end up black. Add a bit more chocolate if you have it, and maybe cold steep if you are worried about too much flavour. Mightn't be an option if it's a user upper though.

May end up more like an American brown than a black IPA. You could always get some special 2, cold steep, boil and then darken it in secondary if you wanted.
The hop schedule looks the business.  What yeast are you using?
I'm stepping up the Conan yeast for a black ipa later in the week.

iv never seen such an intense hopping schedule, usually its just 15, 10, 5, 1, and 0 minutes, does layering the hops like in your recipe add anythin to the flavour?

Guys -

I found some Carafra Sepecial II - so added about 140g of that- its as black as coal now.

Let you know how it goes.
