Hey just bottled my christmas spiced red ale and noticed that it tasted super sweet after i batch primed, the gravity was 1.040 after priming. Is this ok? Should i expect my bottles to explode or my final product to be super sweet? I used 110g of demerara for a 22litre batch

Dr Jacoby

That sounds very high. What was your original gravity? If you didn't add any fresh yeast for bottling then you may not get any carbonation at all (or very little), since it looks like your main batch didn't ferment properly. But if the yeast do take off I'd be very worried about bottle bombs. Be careful!
Every little helps

wtf somebody call the bomb squad :(
how did you do it
How did you take the sample for gravity reading
I am guessing it was batch primed and not mixed well and then you took sample to measure grav from the bottom of the bucket from what was left

Metattron

Did you add 110g or 1.1KG???  Take another reading I think.
In primary:
In secondary: Wine, Melomel
In keg: Teddy Hopper, Coconut stout, 4 Cs, Buzz bomb, Never Sierra, Bock, OD
In the fridge: Helles Lager, Hob Gob

110 grams. Think it might have not mixed properly as the sample was taken at the end  :(

Get them all emptied back in bucket and re-bottle. Otherwise you'll have a spectrum of carbonation from flat to all over the ceiling.

I also do lottery numbers if anyone is interested

We've all been there next time dissolve in boiled water that has cooled to warm and gently pour your beer in on top of it, stir gently to avoid oxidation and bottle simples
