Can someone give me the executive summary?

I've been trying to figure out who's right and who's wrong, but so far it seems both sides are wrong.

The Russians are to blame. Seriously.

It's incredibly sad really. A friend of mine spent time in Syria long before any of this happened and he had nothing but good things to say about the people he met there.

Two good countries to bait.  Luckily, neither of them have any recent history in attacking or taking down websites that speak out against them!  Otherwise it would be incredibly brave to openly criticize either of them on a publicly facing forum...

I vote for a thread deletion.

The reason I say the Russians are to blame is that the key difference is that unlike Libya or Egypt, which were either US client states or tending in that direction Syria has long, long connections with the USSR and latterly Russia. Russia has been Assad's staunchest international ally and this has provided the backdrop to the different path that events have taken in Syria over the last couple of years - as you've summarised - as compared to some of the other Arab Spring countries.

This type of discussion will attract a few more. Perhaps take it to a forum you don't like. Boards?

Are frank and open discussions not allowed here now?
Is this North Korea?
A Poor lad over there had a jar and chatted up a bird then had his head lopped off.
Sucks.

The vid above explains things quite well:
The Assad regime is from the minority (12%) and the majority got fed up of it.
The majority formed a rebel opposition, and if/when they take over, will probably ruin the place entirely (example Iraq).
The Russians and Chinese have vetoed any UN support for the opposition, based on the above (who can blame them).
The US has not gotten involved as all of the groups involved are ideologically opposed/incompatible with the US.

Haven't the yanks been using contractors to use gas in false flag operations there?

I'm sure our small homebrewing forum is the perfect place to discuss hot political issues.  And so what if we attract a few international hacking groups.  With our new hardened server and DDOS prevention system we'll be fine.  It's not like we're using weak passwords or default ports.

Anyone checked the backups recently...

Here was me thinking we were being DDOS'd  NOT!

Dame just when I thought we were gaining global influence. I was wondering who took us down, the Russians, Americans, Chinese or some spotty 14year old in his bed room. Which is more terrifying.😱

A good idea might be to avoid topics that might be too real for you.
