Picked this up today from my local Parcel Motel drop point. I think this will be very useful both as a brewing sanitiser and a household antiseptic ;D

N.B. : This is a hospital grade Iodine based antiseptic with 10% w/w Iodine content, normal Iodine from your local chemist is around 2.2% w/w so this is 5 times strength. This is not to be used unless you are familiar with it and it will stain the bejaysus out of anything it comes in contact with especially in its undiluted form. If you get your hands on this please read all instructions carefully and as always be careful when using it ;D

Is it less expensive than Starsan? Why did you go with Videne?

You should be able to use it for starch conversion tests too I suppose.

I went for this for a couple of reasons, one was it can be used  as a general antiseptic around the house, it can be used on people and animals to treat cuts and certain skin conditions etc., it can be used as a brewery sanitiser. At the dilution rate recommended on most forums for this to be used as a brewery sanitiser which is 1.5ml per litre of water i have 333.0 litres worth of sanitiser from this botle for 15.00 euro, in other words way less expensive than Starsan IMHO. ;D

The plus side for me as well is also its household and husbandry uses,Starsan is no use for those  ;D

As homebrewers we are all trying to save a few bob but you need to be careful promoting products like this for Homebrewing.
Ecolab the manufacturers don't approve Videne for use in brewing, they have proprietary products like bottleguard.
Also be aware that your plastic buckets and pipe work will turn brown after exposure.
The cost difference between this stuff and Starsan is marginal and if you really want to save a few bob go down the bleach vinegar route, you can use the bleach around the house as well without putting brown stains on everything :)

Not promoting it for brewing purposes CH, at least i did not mean to give that impression anyway :-[ I was merely saying that for me just in my own setup this will be useful, bleach is a disinfectant not an antiseptic and can't be used on humans or animals for antiseptic purposes, first and foremost that is the reason i went for Videne. I agree it will stain the shite out of brewing gear but i did acknowledge that above.

Using this for brewing steriliser is only a secondary purpose for me, i know somebody on here has a new brewing sanitiser coming out soon and i am waiting on that. In the meantime however i am looking on Videne as a viable alternative due to the fact that used correctly there is really nothing around the house i cannot use it on.

First and foremost i did not go for Videne to save money, i went for Videne because it has a wider range of uses for me personally that's all. ;D
