You can get free apps for the phone or use online calculators, I use beersmith mobile.
Thats pretty low so i just checked your OG pic again and its closer to 1032, you measure the level as per the pic below
So you are at 3.6% it won't get you pissed easily but refreshing enough to wet a babys head, any news?
You can bump you OG with small amounts of brewing sugar, or for fuller mouthfeel LME or DME.

Cheers CH, I thought thats how i was measuring - I'll make sure to look closer the next time or else the laser eye surgery didnt work!

3.6%? I though it would have been a little higher seeing as I added 500grm DME and 500grm Brewing Sugar which was a little more than the recommended by Coopers.  Ah well, Im happy with the little taste I had of it earlier and the effect the dry hopping seems to have had.

Next thing I'm going to try is a Stout Kit and use some chocolate grains - must start a thread for that.

Still no news . . . doctors are feckers giving us false hope "oh yeah, she'll go very early" . . . still waiting  :)

Sorry should have said you can cut back on the water which is the easiest of all.
LE will tell us how much water goes into those kits, i seem to remember its 23L?
Are you happy about the amount of water thats actually going in, the measures on the sides of the buckets ain't great, a good quality plastic 5 litre measuring jug is a good investment.

fishjam45 (Colin)

I could always do that but then I'd be producing less beer! Ah no seriously, I might just brew a few litres less the next time if thats the case.

Will double check my measurements but as far as I know they are ok.

1.032-1.004 - .028
28/7.46 = 3.75%
+0.5% from priming sugar
= about 4.25%

brewing to 20L would make it a bit stronger (about ~4.6%)
personally, I'd just up the DME to 1kg and lower the sugar to max 250-300g
@23L that'll end up around 5%, that's where I like it.

Ciderhead

It's actually 3.67 don't listen to him ;)
(OG-FG) x131
Abv calc debate coming :)

LordEoin

Don't forget that yeast turns priming sugar to alcohol and co2 also.

The coopers recommended quantity of carb drop will give about .4% abv, and some of the residual sugar will still ferment out in the bottle slowly.
rough best guestimate = add 0.5% ABV if bottle conditioning.
+0% if force carbing (no extra sugar added)

Of course this will vary with the amount of priming sugar. but we're homebrewing beer, not making high end pharmaceuticals, so most of what we do is pretty rough guessing anyway. Take hydrometer readings for example...

Put you knickers back on I meant 3.67 v's 3.75 :P

LordEoin

I thought it was OG 1.032 - FG 1.004 ?
28/7.46 = 3.75%
Either way, 0.08% difference won't break the bank ;)

fishjam45 (Colin)

I'm goin with 4.25% seeing as I went and made a few labels after reading LordEoins post ....only checked back now and read the rest of your posts

CH - the clear bottle is the only one in this batch,it's for observation purposes only  ;)

thanks lads!!!!

LordEoin - I'll keep the clear bottle in the house to keep an eye on it.

CH - far too much time? haha whatever little time i did have will surely be gone by monday, no stir yet.

IrishBeerSnob - have a look at www.beerlabelcreator.com . . . its a free website and you can customize the labels to suit yourself which is pretty cool.  I normally only print off a few, because labelling a full batch of bottles would be very very time consuming.  Its nice to present a visitor/mate with a personalised bottle I think.  (Use pritt stick, easy to use and comes off when bottles are cleaned)
