Corny regulator questions

Hi guys,
Just looking for a steer on trying to get a corny set up in order....I have this mixed gas reg

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251423992030?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649

And a co2 cylinder which will accept the regulator connection...the regulator was tagged with a lager tag when I got it. I'm looking to use co2 with 3 cornys I have, to dispense ales mainly, nitro much further down the line.

I've got the feeling I'll be told I'm going to need a co2 reg, but hoping I can get on with what I have!

Also...2 cornys are pin lock, 1 is ball lock...is this likely to be a pain to work with if I have all three on the go?

Many thanks!

Wows thats really cheap they are normally 50-60 snots newish and calibrated, only issue is its fixed pressure, different styles different carbonation levels, your lager is 50:50 Nitro C02 and that reg dispenses at 32 psi or is it 38, I cant remember, anyway its a lot.
Hang onto to that gear and buy a reg off alex and get yourself a fire extinguisher filled and you can control carbonation.
I normally carb in the 12-20psi range and serve 5-8psi.
Once you cut your teeth and get a feel for the process you can use that gear but do get your reg calibrated, as folks tend to feck around with allen nut in the middle and god knows what its set to, they also need recalibratating depending on usage 1/4 turn is 3-5psi

That reg IS adjustable.

Just prise out the plastic bit in the middle and you should find a hex-head socket screw underneath.

They are usually about 4 mm or so, use an allen key of correct size.

If you unscrew it anti-clockwise that will lower the pressure. The only reason they are sealed with a plastic seal/tag is that the cellar engineer has set them up to the "corrcet pressure" for the pub installation.

Clockwise increase the pressure (unlikely you need to increase the pressure)

The "CP" is all down to line length, head, and types of beer/lager

Lol, unfortunately I sold a spare reg I had....that's the sad price I got for it! Disaster! Can't win em all.  :D

So, if I get the bottle I have filled with 100% CO2 and have the right reg pressure ( it is adjustable in the middle), I should be good to go?
Hoping to be able to find a refill nearby. I have an ex pub bottle, so hopefully there's  no hassle with that...

pictures of the valve on the bottle will help us to answer your question, not of brandings!!
Still think a €35 Alex reg is your best bet, and hang onto your other reg for pub gas if you can find it.

Okay, photos to large to attach! Dropbox links:

And the connection type, if unclear-

Thanks folks.

Yep that's pub gas, have you a local friendly publican that could swap empties for a few quid?

Joe Rocket

Hmmm, not in this case I would say...
I also have an old mixed gas bottle or two, I'll check the fittings too.

Looks like it might be more prudent to get hold of a fire extinguisher and be done with it!

Can you get one of these?

You can't use a CO2 regulator for mixed gas but you can use a Mixed Gas regulator for CO2 as far as I know.
I'm sure I'll be corrected.

Yes you can BUT not with this one. Its American and they use a different sized mixed gas thread!!

You need to find one in the UK

As you have mixed gas(full), spare MT bottles and a very expensive reg why not sell them(or keep for later) and just get a CO2 bottle from AJ in Bray and a reg from Alex?

Yup, think Alex will be my next port of call. On the North Coast here, so Bray wouldn't be the best option for me for CO2 I would guess. Bit more local research required I think!
