kegerator / lagering

I am just in the process on moving from bottles to kegs (only one at present) and am planning on building a under counter kegerator in the next few weeks.

i was wondering if i hooked up a stc 1000 could i use the same undercounter fridge as both a kegerator and a lagering fridge? is the low lagering temp to cold to serve beer.

if it is workable my other question is can i lager in a corny keg? i cant imagine that an undercounter fridge will be big enough to hold a keg (for drinking) and a fermentation bucket and so was thinking i could do the initial ferm in the bucket and rack to the corny for the lagering process?

anyway, not the biggest of lager drinkers so if it is not workable it is not a big deal just curious.

Can you get a corny into your fridge?

I have not got the fridge yet but i assumed (from looking at other people's setups online) that an undercounter fridge would fit two cornies side by side.

is this not always the case?

compressor is shelf at back so no not always
best solution in larder fridge in shed. you could be 3-4 weeks fermenting and the same conditioning, hope you are not too thirsty.

Measure your keg, wander to your local electrical store and measure their display fridges.
Ice boxes can be bent down if you're careful.
Watch out for narrow space saver fridges.
Remember your gas, do you put it in the fridge or beside it? You need to make holes for gas in and liquid out if you're not tapping the door.

As for serving and lagering, there's no reason why it can't do both, do the lagering some month you're off the beer!
No reason you can't lager in a corny, not done it personally, but doable.

Yep, lagering in cornies is easy. Some people trim the dip tube back an inch or bend it slightly to avoid drawing up gunk that has dropped out of solution during maturation. Another trick is to use a bleeder valve on the gas out to carbonate the beer while it lagers - kill two birds kind of thing. When lagering is finished, get a second corny and jumper lead to transfer the finished beer over under pressure and without exposing it to oxygen. Works a treat and gives you a wonderfully fresh beer.

I have an undercounter freezer I use with an STC1000 as a kezzer and have also used it for lagering. Two cornys fit in fine
