We had a good discussion about holding a club competition.

The points mentioned in no particular order were as follows.
These are not set in stone so please lets discuss, update and launch the best run, smoothest, coolest comp in the NHC.

1. Date: Sometime in August. First w/end of Aug is a holiday w/end. Good idea or bad?
With all the other events happening it is good to get our dates out there

2. Registered with ans run to BJCP guidlines.

3. Venue: Probably the Boro [Will will confirm]

4. Open to all NHC members but NCBers get first chance to register.
Max of 2 entries per person. Entry fee: €2 per entry. 2 plain 500 ml bottles (crown or swing)
Entries MUST be recieved before the day!

5. Limitited to 50 or 60 entries (TBD)

6. Judges: We will want 4 BJCP judges and 4 others to partner.
Already a couple of NCBer want to try their hand at jdging so they would be given priority.
I know we could probably get 8 BJCP judges but we also need to grow the interest.

We will also need stewards about 4 will do it - they will also get BJCP experience points

7. At present entry fee will just cover costs: registering, judges essentials, consumables and the like
    Other prizes are TBA

8. Theme: This is where it gets interesting:

It is suggested that theme title is "I can't believe its not lager"

So we would want ales brewed to these styles (using Ale yeast):

    Light Hybrids:
    6A  Cream Ale
    6B  Blond Ale
    6C  Kolsch

Maybe also the Dark Hybrids (to reresent a darker lager)
    7A, 7B, 7C

These would be entered as the style and judged as such.

The best of show would however be the beer that ticks all the boxes of the themes title

i.e. I can't belive this is not a great lager

Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

Booo there is a competition in August already booked!, although tbh most of us in Dublin Posh will never be able to convince our better halves to run a comp that weekend as we have lives outside NHC so work away if that's your week-end.
Can you leave us the 16th or 23rd?

So as not to clash with our Wikkla cuzzins I would suggest the first or second w/end of August

Cheers Mr D just thinking of our new BJCP judges that want to gobble points.

Will_D

OK, date is confirmed with the Boro

Saturday 9 th August

One quick question about the categories:

So far we have:

Light Hybrids:
    6A  Cream Ale
    6B  Blond Ale
    6C  Kolsch
    6D  Am Wheat or Rye

What about the the Dark Hybrids (to reresent a darker lager)
    7A, 7B, 7C ?

I will be posting up in "general" the invite to enter so I need the above answered quickly!

Hmmm it's a porter brewed with lager yeast. Bjcp cat. 12C.
Nothing to do with our competition theme...

BUMP!

What do we think about these?

I think we should include these.

I'd say leave the 7's in. As long as the yeast ferments at the top its in.

Jacob

I'm not fully fine with 7s :/ Only 7C is brewed with 'Clean, highly attenuative ale yeast', rest 'Usually made with an attenuative lager yeast'
I know that you can brew it with an ale yeast but would stick to the styles that are clearly marked as ales.
So for me just cat. 6.

Will_D

Thanks Jacob. Agreed!

Just Cat 6 it is
