So yet again this brew teetered off @ a FG of 1016 (3rd in a row), started 1064. So thinking this could be why I have such sweet after tastes & figured Id try adding more yeast but almost a week after &the gravity has barley changed?
So my question is, when bottling for priming could the yeast kick off & cause a bottle bomb or as Im hoping have they just died?

Cheers,
Phil

They don't die Phil, they just go dormant. A higher FG is expected if you mashed high but yeast attenuation is always a factor too. If you expect a lower FG then stir up some yeast and see if it drops any further

1.016 is not an unusual FG it depends on the fermentables
Primary: Back to Black Again (Michael Jackson stout)
Secondary:
Conditioning:  Breac Donn Imperial Amber Ale
Drinking: Cascade Reaction Amber Ale, Fear Gorm Irish stout, lonesome pilgrim pale ale
Planned: imperial stout, finlandia kit hack

It depends on the yeast you used and attenuation but as said previously above that is not unusual FG for a SG of 1064,if i was doing that brew most i would be expecting is 1012-1014 FG anyway, depending on the beer and yeast of ccourse. ;D

As has being said don't get hung up on FG. 1016 is perfectly normal. If you want beers with a lower FG then you need to look at the recipe you are using and the yeast as well. Do the taste rule,if it looks right and taste right,it's right. :)

ive got swing top glass bottles, so should be strong. I tasted & the flavours I expected arnt there really, just a sweet sugary taste as w.previous brews.
I did a hack w.Muntons dockland porter & safbrew T58 yeast

Hop Bomb

Hydrometer issue? Ive two here & one reads a few points higher than the other.
On tap: Flanders, Gose,
Fermenting: Oatmeal Brown, 200ish Fathoms,
Ageing: bretted 1890 export stout.
To brew:  2015 RIS, Kellerbier, Altbier.

might be, i checked it when i bought it, but must test it again to rule it out

I think its distilled water? should read 1.000 or something.

Yep use these, the swing top is more likely to pop off before the glass breaks.

T-58 is often used in Belgians and can taste spicey which can sometimes appear sweet.

I was thinking of giving the brew a stir up &see how it is after the weekend, or should I just bottle? I could do 2ndary primer, but would need t bottle w/in a week as Im BACK OUT TO WORK SOON & WILL BE GONE FOR 2-2.5 months

irish_goat

Just bottle at the last minute.
