Drinking with my Liverpool mate who has to has to hold back on his bleating about the best club in the world made my €5 bottles of O'Hara's IPA slip down nicely :D

Must be a Man United Fan Dempsey :)

Liverpool/Munster fan myself, currently licking the wounds from double beating administered by teams assembled by rich owners. Still in with a shout (faint) for the football but the rugby has to wait for another year.

Do Liverpool not have rich owners?

Liverpool is owned.a business called Fenway.sport. Its headed by a guy.called John Henry and they operate a buy low sell high policy because they cant afford/compete in other fashion. The owners of other clubs Manchester city & Chelsea are owned by billionaires (Arab Sheik & Russian Oligarch) that they use to subsidise the clubs they own. Toulon is owned by a French publishing magnet who has used the cash to recruit foreign talent from europe, south africa and australia. Sport as we knew it is gone & as a rugby/soccer fan its depressing to see.rugby follow the same approach.

Are Liverpool not currently very close to breaking FFP rules? I'm all for getting rid of the whole sugar daddy element with clubs likes PSG, Chelsea, City, etc but all clubs should have to live within their means.

I don't buy into any of this "its killing sport" stuff though. Every sport will always have its share of problems. Money has had its negative effects on the game but its had positives too, like sorting out the crowds in English football.

According to http://www.financialfairplay.co.uk/ they just about qualify, first time that I had heard of it but there you go. Manchester City sponsorship deal with Eithad is likely to have them being sanctioned for contravening the ffps rules.

As for money positive/negative effects I guess there is a question of how much money is enough. Clubs pay more and more each year for contracts for the best players. Crowd problems in England is a complex problem related to a combination of old stadiums and over crowding. Rugby as an example has never really had crowd problems per se and its not necessarily because rugby is an elitist sport (depending on the part of the country its played in).

Rugby has never been a popular working class spectator sport though. Its apples to oranges.

Anyway thats all very serious. I just hope City win the league now cos I want Liverpools failure to be Gerrards fault.  :P

In Limerick that is not true (where I am from originally) as its played as a sport irrespective of class. True that does not generally apply else where.

As for City winning the league its in your own hands now and if they win their remaining games, good luck to them. Your reference to Liverpool not winning being Gerard's fault would suggest your also a Man United fan (but I could be wrong :). I would see the disallowed goal against Man City and the blatant kick from behind on Suarez during the game at Stamford bridge.

Had to to do a double take when I read your post as I was having a definite sense of Deja vu. I am not in the pub
Dempsey but watching it at home on the tv. I have to say the better team won as Athletico Madrid blew Chelsea away. Positivity triumphs negativity which is nice to see. If it has the side effect of Mourinho "getting up the yard" so to speak then I for one will be happy. Can't wait to see the press conference.
