Summer Beer Comp 2014 - First Round Judging

On foot of Rossa's list here, I guess it's time we decided on a date, venue and format for the Capital Brewer first round judging session. For anyone who doesn't know about the comp, Rossa outlines the idea here. The first round judging takes place at local club level and the winners go through to the national event in June.

Last time out we used Shiny's template for the first round judging session, which worked very well. It wasn't run as an official BJCP event last year but if anyone would like to do so this time around please go for it. I'm not a BJCP man myself but I'll help out in any way I can. Maybe Rossa could offer some advice on this front?

We normally meet on the last Tuesday of each month so I guess we could go with Tuesday 27th May. Tuesdays are a little awkward for me these days so I'd like to propose that we consider meeting on Wednesday 28th May instead, but of course I'll go with whatever the club wants.

The biggest decision to be made is the venue. Any suggestions? Last time we used WJ Kavanaghs but it was under different management then. Has anyone been in there recently? Would it be worth trying to reserve a few tables for the event?
Every little helps

It's just as good as before, imo. CARA is friendly with the owners but I'd assume they'd be accommodating enough anyway.

Yeah Kavanaghs worked well last time so definitely makes sense to have it there again.

iv only been to one capitol brewers meeting which was yonks ago but just thought id mention the headline could be an option also, just saying

Only issue with the headline is it is a bit small, we had to drag 3 different sized tables together the last time and at that it was still very cramped. You could multiply that problem by a factor of two for a competition. Kavanagh's on the other hand, assuming it still has the same furniture, has loads of massive tables and plenty of room.

I'm putting down my name with a beer anyway.

Hopefully the windsor yeast "snowflakes" settle between now and end of month on my brew :'(
