Ha, I love the way they're asking tourists in The Storehouse their opinion on it; half of them have probably never even had a decent pint of plain. Bring it down to Mulligan's or The Gravediggers and ask a few regulars what they think, then we'll have a good idea of how it really performs.

The widget system (incidentally invented by Guinness) impacts on shelf life due to the O2 in the widget, this system was to extend the shelf life, using an ultrasonic plate to generate the surge. No widget = less dissolved oxygen.  It was primarily aimed at small restaurants/ bars in Japan etc. They used to sell a special pack in Tesco plus in the UK including I think, a 4pack, a glass and a surger plate. I don't think it ever took off, although I did have one in Spain either last year or the year before. From memory you apply a small drop of water to the plate, pour the beer flat, place the glass on the plate and press the button. The water is to ensure that the ultrasonic wave is applied universally to the bottom of the glass, allowing for discrepancies in the glass and the ultrasonic plate. One of the guys tried it with coke cola and it destroyed the ceiling  ???
There's no such thing as bad beer - some just taste better than others
