Hey,
I'm going to have some free time at the end of the week so I plan on doing a Punk IPA Clone.  If you guys have any feedback on the timing of the hop additions I'd appreciate it as theres so many different variations out there I dont know which to go with.
I'll be using 6kg Maris Otter and Safele US05 Yeast.
I've got 100grams each of Chinook, Ahtanum and Simcoe Pellet and 100grams of Nelson Sauvin leaf to play around with.  I plan on dry hopping it too but am only concerned with the timing and weight of the hop additions at the moment.

Heres 2 suggestions I've come up with

15g. Chinook, 60 minutes
30g. Ahtanum, 15 minutes
15g. Nelson Sauvin, 15 minutes
15g Simcoe, 10 minutes
15g Chinook, Nelson Sauvin & Simcoe at 0min

or

2g Chinook  – Boil 60.0 min
20g Chinook  – Boil 30.0 min
10g Chinook – Boil 15.0 min
10g  Nelson Sauvin  – Boil 15.0 min
10g  Simcoe  – Boil 15.0 min
20g Ahtanum, Chinook, Nelson Sauvin and Simcoe  – Boil 1.0 min

What do you guys reckon?

It'll be all about the dry hopping for punk.

Im tasting a bit of Cascade in there.  Could be wrong.

Thanks Lads . . . I put this brew on tonight and this is what I went with.

15g. Chinook,60 minutes
15g Nelson Sauvin and 30g Ahtanum, 15 minutes
15g Simcoe, 10 minutes
15g Anthum, Chinook, Nelson Sauvin & Simcoe, 0 mins

I plan on dry hopping the bejaysus out of it. I aim to let her go for 10 days then dry hop for 5 days after that.
I finished with 19litres at OG 1.056

I'm interested to hear how this goes for you. Wouldn't mind doing a Punk clone too, very popular with my friends and I quite like it too.

mr hoppy

Maybe ye are way ahead of me here but rumour has it that Jaipur and Punk are variations on the same basic recipe (one of the Brewdoggers started in Thornbridge). I think there's a recipe for Jaipur in Mitch Steele's IPA book and without checking I'd say fishjam is on the right track.

Qs

I've drank a lot more punk than Jaipur but I always found Jaipur to be more floral and Punk more citrus fruit.

mr hoppy

Not saying they are the same but one of the brewdogs (Dickie?) worked in Thornbridge and rumor has it Punk was originally a Jaipur knock off.

Just a suggestion, if you're looking for an angle to trying to dial a recipe in.

Qs

Punks changed since they started too. Used to be 6% ABV and much more bitter.

the lads were doing a live Q and A yesterday for the launch of their new beer mashtag 2014, i asked about the hopping for the beer and they said one bittering addition in the boil and then all whirpool additions, it was an imperial red ale but i assume the hoppy punk would follow the same protocol maybe give it a go and then boat loads of dry hopping

Cheers lads.
I'm leaving it to ferment for ten days then transfer to secondary and dry hop it there for 4 - 5 days. It's been bubbling away for nearly a week now and I keep having a sneaky sniff from the airlock everytime I walk by ... That's healthy, right???

I transferred to secondary tonight anf Dry Hopped with 30g each of Chinook, Simcoe, Ahtanum and Nelson Sauvin.
The smell in the house was amazing so I'm really looking forward to seeing how this brew will turn out.
Im going to bottle it on Friday night.

Thats a savage dry hop. Sounds like it'll be great.
