Getting rid of bats

I initially thought I had mice in an upstairs wall vent. It's in an ensuite that I only use for fermenting and storing beer. Heard some noise in it a few months ago and assumed it was a trapped moth. Heard it again today so decided to investigate. As I loosened the internal cover a load of what I thought was mouseshit fell down. Opened up for a peek and thought I saw 3 or 4 mice huddling together against the outside vent. Went off and bought poison/traps etc. when I went to put the poison in I saw them again and their little fucking bat wings. I know they're protected but I don't give a shit, they must go. A friend resolved a similar problem in the past with an elaborate 1 way trapdoor made from 2" pipe and a Perspex flap. I can do that but I'd rather a less labour intensive solution. Any ideas/experience with similar problems?

You should probably keep illegal activities like killing protected species off the public interwebs.

i read up a little on this and apparently they don't hybernate up there at all cos its too warm.
They should leave around september/october, then you can patch up the hole they're getting in through to stop them coming back next year.

If you can learn to speak bat you could pop your head up in the attic and say. GET THE FOOK OUT OF MY HOUSE . You could also get a recording of a hawk and play it loud in the attic. Hope this helps.

What to do about Bats in the Attic

Bats are protected as an endangered species in Ireland and it is an offence to try to kill or remove bats or to change or block their roosts.

Even if bats have left your attic, it is still an offence to block the roost - bats return to the same place every year and so even empty bat roosts are protected.

If you are aware that bats are roosting in your attic, you should consult with The National Parks and Wildlife before carrying out remedial timber treatments, insect control or rodent control that may cause harm to bats.
