Probably one of the best English bottled conditioned beers about is Fullers 1845 and it's available now in Supervalue Celbridge. :)

While we're on the subject can anyone tell me where the sherry/port Christmas cake flavour comes from? I get it in the fullers IPA aswell is it oxidation or just from ingredients/fermentation?

molc

Aged beer gets that from oxidation. Christmas cake flavours like dark fruits can be from the darker crystal malts as well. Also high alcohol beers will give you some of the vineous qualities of sherry and port.
Fermenting: IPA, Lambic, Mead
Conditioning: Lambic, Cider, RIS, Ole Ale, Saison
On Tap: IPA, Helles, Best Bitter

Thanks for that I'll have to try aging some beers

DEMPSEY

This beer is only a limited production AFAIK and so it rarely gets on sale here as it is sold out quickly.

Is this the beer they sell in the presentation case??

baphomite51

It's year round the first time they done it it was supposed to be a once off for a celebration but it was so good they made it a year rounder beer. The one in the box is the vintage ale that's once a year.

OK own up who came to Celbridge and raided the last of the 1845 >:(. I call in to do a bit of shopping and pick up some more and its all gone :(. Asked at the counter and was told that as soon as it was going on the shelf it was selling. Last time I going to tip ye off  :P

After reading this thread I had a hankering for a bottle of 1845, which is normally around £1.99 in Tesco. Popped in today and it seems to have been axed in favour of Diageo's Golden Ale and Blonde. None to be found.  >:(
