They're npt. But at 1/2", bsp fittings will fit. Ptfe tape is your friend.

Damien It depends where you buy them from really, in the main BSP from this side of the pond.
As Garry said ptfe tape will solve the problem as pumps or plate chillers never see the sort of pressures that would cause leaking and I have taken mine off a few times on chugger now to feck about.
Try and avoid the temptation to over tighten.

I bought a plate chiller from hbc. The wort connections were 1/2" npt but bsp fittings did the job. The water connections were 3/4" but they weren't npt. They were ght! That's american garden hose thread. It was a new one for me but you can get adapters on eBay and aliexpress. You can force a PLASTIC 3/4" bsp hose fitting onto them but not a metal one.

For anyone considering a centre inlet pump, the connection is 3/4" GHT (Garden Hose Thread) this is also known as NPS (National Pipe Straight) thread, in other words the thread is not tapered as per NPT. These pumps need an adaptor as 3/4" NPS/GHT is not interchangeable with 3/4" BSP unlike it's 1/2" and 1" cousins
