Where do you get Nitrogen/CO2 refills?

Hi, I have an empty cylinder and looking for refill. BOC said they don't do it. I got one place who will do a swap for a full cylinber for €40 plus €15 delivery (it's delivery only).
Is €55 too steep? Anywhere better?
I'm in Dublin

Thanks

Seems like a good deal. Most people can't even find mixed gas.

BOC in Ballymun is rather full of all the mixed beer gases you could possibly imagine.
(Also Mig/Tig welding. Oxy/Acetylene,
Small bottles, big bottles and even humungeous bottles.

You just need to open an account!*

It amazes me that homebrewers spend a fortune on shinny kit and top class ingredients and won't cough up 80 quid a year to rent a fekin botlle of quality gas!

And just sqawk on this forum: "Oh where can I get a refill of this dodgy old mixed gas bottle"

And BOC refils are cheaper, fuller & better quality than any other "gas sharks" in .ieland

* To open an account you just need:

ID: passport or photo driving licence
bank statement for the DD details!

Takes 5 mins an ytou walk out with a bottle of great gas

How do I know this:

Been there done it!
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

Beware of places that just equalise a tank with a full one, I got burnt that way with my very first one :(

Do boc open accounts for home brewers?, last time I rang them they had no interest in doing business at all.

The Ballymun* depot is very friendly towards homebrewers, they will open you an account!
You just need id and bank details.

I have heard that other depots around the country may be different

*: See, the North side is the best side ;)

What does this involve?  Is there any way to tell?

Interesting. When I rang BOC and told them what I wanted the lady said they didn't do it.
How much is it per refill once you have an account? I have a few friends and were share our brewing eqiupment, we could possibly share an account too.

I think she knew you weren't a full member :P

A refill is about 50 I think. But ring the Ballymun depot, Owen the old manager has now retired but his replacement will give you the details.

Best way is the pressure gauge on your mixed gas regulator!

Assuming you have two equal sized tanks, one full at 220 bar and one empty at 1 bar

Connect the two and each will be at 110 bar.

Connect another full tank to one of them and then you get 165bar in each.

If the tanks are diferent volumes then the smaller tank will fill to a higer pressure according to the gas laws.

This called "filling by decanting" and to decant fill a full bottle to nearly 220 bar you need a bank of bottles at least 5!

Beerbuddha

It took me a while to organise a bottle stout 70/30 gas but have only used it once. Like the hop rocket I couldn't wait to buy but haven't used it yet after a year.
Point being make sure it's worth the effort
