JG Fitting Wearing Away

Is this normal? I've had these fittings on for about 2 years. Yesterday one of the fittings completely broke and I was soaked in beer. Today I'm taking the whole system apart and realised there are a lot of broken and work away fittings on it. Should I be replacing regularly or has something else caused these issues?
