Sugar free recipe for diabetics?

Hello,

Can someone help me with older post if there was any before for similar topic?
I have a friend who loves craft beers, but he found out he can't drink anymore, because of high contents of sugar in beers. So just wandering if anyone has similar issues and willing to share recipe what makes very low in sugar beer? Any links or information much appreciated!

Satzenbrau used to be drunk by some people with diabetes, it was a very dry pils. You'd probably need to use a multi stage mash and add additional enzymes like protease, or alpha amylase, the home brew shops sell enzymes you could play around with, you'll also need to watch the ABV as alcohol and diabetes don't go well together. By lowering the final gravity using enzymes, you are producing more alcohol. You would probably need to target an OG of below 1.030 as with the enzymes you will probably end up with a terminal gravity of around 1.000 if not slightly below this.
Ideally if he wants to drink he should discuss his options with his doctor first, before you go brewing anything.

Other downside is that much of the metabolic processes for alcohol are the same as for sugar..some people get type 2 diabetes from hitting beer too hard. Others get diseases usually associated with alcoholism from sugar​, like fatty liver disease! Definitely would chat to the doctor rather than micro-managing recipes.

He has to control sugar level in his blood, so can still consume low low sugar food/beverages.

Well, yes, low sugar. But alcohol is metabolised very similarly, so the 6% abc, 0.3% sugar beer is 6.3% sugar for metabolic purposes. May not be a problem, but worth noting.
