I'm wondering what additions does anyone make to tesco ashbeck water? Using either acid malt or lactic acid in a 23L batch
I'm doing a Belgian pale ale. Ph keeps coming in at 5.69, tells.me to add 560g acid malt then after I don't tells me to add 600g...now I could be just stupid and reading it right 😁
Beer
1 is good, 2 is better, 3 is enough & 4 isn't half enough

Easy rule of thumb is 1% acid alt per .1 PH drop, so in this case, 2-3% would get you to 5.4-5.5PH
Fermenting: IPA, Lambic, Mead
Conditioning: Lambic, Cider, RIS, Ole Ale, Saison
On Tap: IPA, Helles, Best Bitter

That's what I was operating on 3% but in BeerSmith when I add the acid malt to grist bill estimated ph doesn't change, even if I up it to 5%. In the mash section, in the ph part, it now tells me to add more acid malt...lol ....

Yeah I don't think beersmith accounts for it correctly. If you set your acid type to acid malt the calculated ph goes down though I find it undershoots a little, probably as the acid level in the malt is higher than Beersmiths reference.

The rule of thumb above seems to get me to the right place for the mash though, so I'd say go conservative and measure over a few batches to dial it in.

That's what I was thinking...ill hit for 3% and sure it's a Belgian anyway so can't be too far off
