How much is too much to dry hop?

Oh Crap

As the title says how much per litre is too much...
I'm dry hopping an IPA shortly and am in two minds as to how much to throw in..
It's 37L at 6.8%... flame out had citra, simcoe and heull melon.. I was thinking of DH with simcoe huell melon and wai-iti but not sure whether to go 6 g/l or 12g/l..total
Any thoughts
Beer
1 is good, 2 is better, 3 is enough & 4 isn't half enough

Qs

I don't really get much difference in my brews between around 7g/l and 10g/l so I don't bother pushing it further than that. I'd always whirlpool in similar quantities though.

DEMPSEY

I would apply the rule, "with an IPA you can never have enough hops".  8)

there is a limit, at one time,it's in the IPA book. Maybe do 1/2 for 3 day + the other half for 3 days.

When you say do 2 separate additions, do you remove the first hop addition before adding the second?

I generally like to add my pellets in loose, which wouldn't obviously suit for this method.

Qs

I just add them and leave them when I double dry hop. Just don't leave the first batch too long to avoid the grassy flavours

Oh Crap

I dryhopped today
189g total, simcoe, citra, h.melon

Might be juicy 😂😂

Yes, two additions. "DDH" is what all the cool kids call it these days.

On amounts, Cloudwater routinely hit 24g/L for dry hopping. The only limit is how much you want to spend.

What's the argument for doing 2 installments? Why not just use the entire amount in 1 dry hop?

It's likely down to maximising the hop to beer surface area. A thick blanket of hop pellets will trap hop oils in the lower strata. Ironically a bigger problem for conical owners: the best hop character I ever experienced was the aroma of Amarillo as I dumped it out of the bottom of my SS brewtech.

Conical owners though can get more hop contact by multiple smaller hop additions/dump cycles. And if you like living dangerously, 2+ bar of CO2 will resuspend the hops in the beer. 🤯
