Guten Morgen Brewers,

Note: Due to difficulty finalising a venue for judging, we have pushed the competition back a couple of weeks. This post has been updated with the new dates, as below.

Get ready to showcase your brewing skills and celebrate the rich heritage of German beer styles!

Garden County Brewers are thrilled to announce our upcoming homebrew competition, Oktoberfest, focused on German-style beers (as per BJCP guidelines).  Whether you're an experienced brewer or just getting started, this is your chance to shine and share your passion for brewing exceptional German beers.

Competition Details

Judging Date: October 14th
Entry Deadline: September 25th
Entry Fee: €5 per entry, paid via Revolut
Multiple Entries: Yes, multiple entries are welcome and encouraged!
Prizes: Medals awarded and sponsored prizes for the best beers
Bottle Requirements: 2x500ml brown bottles per entry, crown capped only (no swing tops), strictly no labels or distinguishing marks on the bottles
Accepted German styles as defined by BJCP:
4A. Munich Helles
4B. Festbier
4C. Helles Bock
5A. German Leichtbier
5B. Kölsch
5C. German Helles Exportbier
5D. German Pils
6A. Märzen
6B. Rauchbier
6C. Dunkles Bock
7B. Altbier
8A. Munich Dunkel
8B. Schwarzbier
9A. Doppelbock
10A. Weissbier
10B. Dunkles Weissbier
10C. Weizenbock
23A. Berliner Weisse
23G. Gose
27. Historical Beer: Kellerbier
27. Historical Beer: Roggenbier

This is a BJCP registered competition. Beers will be judged to BJCP Standards.

Registration will open soon, so stay tuned for further announcements regarding registration and submitting your entries. In the meantime, mark your calendars and start planning your brewing schedule to ensure you have ample time to prepare your entries.

Key Dates to Remember

Entry Submission Deadline: September 25th 2023
Competition Date: October 14th 2023

Once the registration is open, you'll be provided with clear instructions on how to enter your beers and make the necessary payment. Our club representative will be accepting submissions until September 15th, so please plan accordingly and ensure your beers reach us on time.

Now is the time to dust off your brewing equipment, fine-tune your recipes, and start fermenting those delicious German-inspired creations. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to have your beers evaluated by experienced judges and fellow enthusiasts.

Whether you're brewing a crisp German Pilsner, a malty Oktoberfest Märzen, a refreshing Hefeweizen, or any other fantastic German style, we can't wait to see what you bring to the table.

Sorry for the delayed response. You can drop off your beers to your local club reps. We'll work with them how to collect all the entries. If you aren't a member of a club, please select "other" on the entry form and email gcbrewers@gmail.com - we'll see what can be figured out.
