When are the barrels being delivered?
How long in primary?
How long in secondary?
How long to age in barrel?

What kind of dates are we looking at here in order for everyone to get their ingredients in?

Conor.

How long in primary?
10 Days

How long in secondary?
14 Days

Personally I will probably just leave it in primary for 3 weeks.

How long to age in barrel?
I'm going to push for 4 months max or less depending on the taste, I have tried a lot of barrel aged stouts over the last year and I much prefer the subtle flavour vs the completely poisoned flavour. I think the best way to do this would be to siphon out a bottle of it and bring it to the monthly meets to see how it is coming along.

Well if he isn't, you can leave it outside his house and I'll sit on it and guard it with me life!!

Nice work there shiny. Sounds good.

If the barrels are being delivered on Tuesday, as Ciderhead says, then we could aim to fill the barrel on Sat 25th/Sun 26th. That gives us 4 weeks to get ingredients, get the brews on and round up some more support. Everyone agree? Shanna, as our barrel host, does that suit you?

Shanna

Shanna will be at home from approx 7pm on Tuesday expecting delivery after 8. Cider head give us a shout before delivery as the barrel needs to be delivered via lane at back of house.

The secret beer garden festival is on the afternoon of the 25th but other than that the weekend is fine for me.

The only issue about rounding up support is that it has to be done before we can do anything else. One example would the the bulk buy of 5kg from simply hops that would cover the ~4kg of EKG that will be needed between this barrel and the other CB barrel.

I know, and it's getting a bit frustrating. There's been plenty of interest in the SD barrel, but I'm trying to get people to signup and give their commitment. Or else our efforts (not to mention the huge amount of ingredients) will be for nowt.

I've already got most of my hops ready to go, so I won't need the group buy.

Lads - I'll sign up to give a dig out - but i don't usually experiment too much, i brew in a bag usually brewing 2 or 3 simple recipes. Upshot is I will most likely need to borrow a mash tun. If someone will lend me - ill follow the instructions and brew away one of the days the lender isnt using the MT.

In Wickla we are securing all items together in a group buy and just getting presented with a bill much easier when it comes to brewing rather than flying solo, especially if you need 2 or 3 contributions from our side of the fence?

Good lad! (I'd loan you a mash tun, but I don't have one. I'm a BIAB/partial masher).

Alright well then thats grand - I'll consult with you on what you did - and ill do the same.

See the thing is; Im not into all the numbers and efficiencies and step mashing and flaming out and all that palava. I barely even check the gravity of anything. I do try to hit the right temps though.

As I say detail your brewday and ill do what you did :)

Shanna, give me a bell on Tuesday evening and I'll spin up and give yis a hand with the lifting. I'd like to see the new baby get settled into her new home! :)
