Are you set on MDF?

Can sort you out with ply if thats any good. Not sure if its 18mm or 13mm.

I used a 18mm base and 6mm mdf for the hopper.

6mm is fine for the hopper!! Screw it together with some 3mm screws and a bit of white glue!

Will try to get some pics tomorrow
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

Hi Jimmy

check the golden pages for local builders suppliers. Some will havecca table saw and will have off cuts left over from some other punter. Afirst you hac.f.e to pay for them to cut you a section.from a full sheet. I have done this severa Times. By the way would not recommend mdf as its no good with water. I.would plywood instead as its bit more forgiving of water especially marine ply.

Cheers whoever created the post from the other thread - Its not brewing related - Need a bit to make a few drawer faces. Ya can make MDF water tight-ish - im obviously not building a boat out of it :P
It takes the paint better than ply and ive built the rest of my kitchen out of it already :P
Cheers for the tip Declan

There is a sealer you use on mdf. It is used by furniture makers who use alot of mdf.

Yeah ive done it loads of times.
PVA solution does the job. Yopu can buy stuff specifically for it too. If you go painting straight onto MDF youre pissing against the wind really as it just sucks it up,.

Brookfield builders depot on Brookfield Avenue off Carysford Avenue. See link below for details. They can deliver but if
you have a car they will cut it up for yI u (mind you pay for each cut) and you can drive them home. You could also try Chadwick in Ravensrock road in.Sandyford, as far as I know they deliver or you can collect.but they don't have a service to cut the wood.

if you have a way to take the wood away whole that would be cheapest, just use a band saw to cut up the ply. if your living around Black rock send me a pm (good to reach out to fellow diy/home brew heads.

By the way .8 sq metres is just over 8 ft squared. a 8 ft by 4 ft.sheet is 32 ft sq so unless I am missing something 1 sheet should be enough.

Hey Declan,

I live out by you - where did you go for that?  I need about .8sqm of ply to use as a shelf in the shed for my fermenting fridge.  Trying to keep the cost down.

Mike ply comes in 8x4ft sheets so you would need two of those to get 8ft sq. If you go with say half inch marine ply you ate looking at 50 euro at least.

?
8x4 is 32 and 32 x 2 is 64 AND Mike is only looking for .8sq meteres :P

I knew you were a bit mad deadman :)

Just saw your edited post Mike.
B&Q have a free cutting service but you will more than likely pay more than a builders providers (although B&Q arent as bad for prices as woodies, on certain things)
And your nearest B&Q is Tallaght.
