How much do we owe you? Or would you prefer to keep the barrel?

Cathal O D

You could probably repitch yeast when you bottle, unless you are leaving it in the keg.

Also I think we should refill it with the next beer as soon as we empty it so it doesn't dry out. If so we would want to be thinking of recipes.

Probably a bit late now. Could we put water in it for the time being so it doesnt dry out?

irish_goat

Reckon it would it need to be the same yeast or would any ale yeast do the job?

Shane Phelan

I was going to put in either San Diego yeast or US05. I'm leaning towards the US05 in case the SD yeast causes bottle bombs.

I hear Notty is good, in that it floc's to the bottom very well, but I have no idea if it's better than other yeasts or not! I'll probably use US05 as there is some in my fridge!

Shane Phelan

Oh, I might use that either. It doesn't make much of a difference to me, I'm going to have to buy some sort of yeast.

Notty is the one I believe. If it's good enough for the pros...

Shane Phelan

Rossa, can we use your chugger pump to empty the barrel?

We could try. It does chug about 22l+ a minute though. How could we hook it up?

Shane Phelan

If we put the pump on the ground which would be lower than the lowest point in the barrel, run a tube into the barrel from the intake and another from the outflow to the kegs/buckets/etc.. Just leave the pump going and have all the empty vessels lined up ready to take the beer.

I assume the pump needs to be primed?

The flow in would  need to be epic. I have the small solar jobbie too.

But when you empty the cask what are your plans for the empty??

We were talking about this last night. Perhaps making a much lower ABV beer (~6%) to ease the strain on people's mash tuns. Any interest in filling the barrel again?
