Tec 7

Has anyone used this stuff for sealing i was going to make a mash tun same as this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuIKHC57ROQ.
I have 2 of the bungs he uses so it would be a handy/cheap conversion to do and just in case i need to seal it i was going to use tec 7 because i have some but im not sure if its food grade or good enough to use in my mash tun.

Tec 7 is food safe. It is not a silicone and can handle high temperatures.

I spoke to a rep from the company that sell tec7 a while back, he assured me that their product was "food safe" and therefore would be fine for beer making.
I got him to mail me the technical data sheet on the product, I prolly still have it somewhere.
Anyway on closer examination the product is food safe (well the white coloured version) below 80C for very limited periods.
So that rules out mashing, boiling, fermenting and more or less anyrhing brewing related I can think of.

Food safe is a term thats used for all sorts of things and you need to be careful of the real meaning.
If you have tiles in a kitchen, white tec7 is fine in, on or around them where food products will have limited contact time with it, but expose that to heat/acidic conditions/time you have a different story.

Yeah there could be one but I guess thats my long winded way of saying be careful of some lad saying "oh this stuff, yeah thats food safe"

OKAY mr fusspot ,but it will work fine just not on Polypropylene and Polyethylene. Temp will work to 95+ c.

I'd be with CH, its has issues with acidic conditions, I would let it be direct contact with your beer.

Contains N-(3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl)-ethylenediamine

The first page states: Hazardouus ingredients: trimethoxyvinylsilane This is probably its "common" name whereas the one above is the  IUPAC standard name.

There is no mention of any other ingredient. If they had added a fungicide then that would have to be mentioned.

The SDS is pretty poor, they list little or no data in relation to tox studies, check out sigma-aldrich sds

I have tried it to seal plumbing fittings in my last keg brewery. It failed. I don't think it's able for high temps. I now use the plastic washers you get from the plumbing shop.
