How's it going everyone?! Lee here, based in Wexford. I have been on a brief sabbatical from the whole homebrew thing but with the large amount of apples the good woman's dad had lying around I decided to make some cider. Well that was two weeks ago and since then I have been buying the all gear I gave away a year ago again!! Currently I have some mead, a turbo cider and a batch of ditches stout on the go along with my original batch of cider (not holding out much hope for it though).

Ciderhead

Hi welcome to the forum, couple of boys down your way, good luck with the cider, save it for salad if it doesn't work out :)

@ciderhead that's what I think will happen! I have an order in with English's here in Wexford for 10 apple trees for November so hopefully this time next year I'll be making some decent cider!!

I'm afraid it won't be next year! Depending on the age of the trees and root stock (bare root are usually 1 or 2 year olds)(containerised trees are difficult to age!) then it will be 2 years or more before you get your first small crop. Reckon about 5 years before full cropping!

Cider making is a slow process!!

Welcome by the way, we have a failrly active cider group here: http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php/board,2.0.html

Suggest you start with a "Turbo" cider made from supermarket juice.
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

For those NHC members not familiar with "Ditch", he's a poster based in Sligo who's been a regular poster on the Jim's Beer Kit forum for years now. A real character, his persona and his prescribed method of making Coopers Stout kits have become something of a legend on the site. And beyond...

have a turbo on the go alright. When I spoke to Tom he was saying the trees he has for sale this November have a good few apples on them already, but I don't know the age them. Looking forward to picking everyone's brains in the cider group!! Thanks for the welcome.
