Garry

There doesn't seem to be much interest in this yet but if it goes ahead I assume they would be delivered to someone in Dublin? Johnnycheech has offered his shed anyway. Thanks  :)

I could go to Dublin to collect and do a few drops on the way back to Cork? I don't think I'd manage a full pallet, but I'd get a fair few into the car (Toyota verso) with the back seats down.

Ciderhead

Garry you have NHC delivery credits so that won't be an issue for you.

brewerhooer

I wouldn't mind organising this one, I've never been part of a group buy before so just be aware of that. only thing that concerns me is accepting the delivery... would a pallet be dropped to my house or would I have to collect it somewhere? I am driving a car van so if its collection it might take a few runs as I've no idea how big a pallet of these might be.

Also there were two sizes quoted from ciderhead at the beginning of this thread, I assume we will be only doing one of them subject to numbers?

I'm based in Inchicore. Let me know if you think me doing this is a runner and I will email them about pricing, delivery etc.

Current list is:

1. Garry - 8 no - 20 bottle type
2. johnnycheech - 5- 20 bottle type
2. Brewerhooer - 10 20 bottle type

Total 23/56

Hi Brewerhooer,

That is the spirit. I have a pair of a sheds in South county Dublin that I can also offer up.  We can all contribute on this one.  Probably the first thing to do is to get the details of the different crates sorted out including prices etc for a pallet delivery.  There is another group buy in the offing regarding bottles (2100 swing top bottles/210 crates) so if we get the correct type we should have loads of participants. I have already sent an email to one of the suppliers about this and will post an update when I get it.

Pallets are usually delivered by some kind of truck with a dropping tail ramp and a hand truck.  Vehicle access to a shed is not necessarily essential but is preferable unless you fancy hauling stuff around yourself. You should not have to go somewhere else to collect unless you specify this option.  For example some delivery companies allow you to collect from a depot in the East wall etc. Unless you have a pallet truck and a lorry this is not really practical.

I can act as the delivery/storage/distribution point if you want and maybe you can do the organising. Or if you feel like doing everything then I will step back and will offer some help with advice on collection of cash etc.  I would recommend organising the list by club areas once we get going.

By their nature these things are bulky and take up lot of room. Not necessarily a problem for storage but one for collection and distribution.  One other thing I will add myself to the list once I have the details confirmed re the sizes of the bottles they can take.

How much room so you have in your shed? If it came to handling 2 or more pallets could you accommodate it. My assumption here is that this group buy will only be open to club members and that there will be no premium added to the price other than a minimal addition to cover the club costs if the bank facilities of the club are used.

I'm still interested in this group buy.

However I need to await dimensions of the 9.5in & 12in crate options as I'm unsure which crate to order. All my drunk & empty 500ml bottles are around 9.5in and may stack fit in the 9.5in crates.

@Ciderhead. Did you measure the length of the GB swing top bottles? Asking as I don't want crates that I can't stack fit my new bottles. (More importantly my wife won't want this)

Thanks to everyone organizing the group buys.

@Ciderhead
I reread the thread again and can only see Shanna awaiting correspondence about dimensions.
I had asked you about the swingtop bottles as you have seen them and if they are taller than 9.5in then I need to order the 12in crates.

Eoin

The beer cases in that brochure should measure D28cm*L40cm*W30cm. I have a stack of cases and that is standard size. I have one other which holds 18 fatter style 500ml fliptops but I never saw this style when I worked over there. So you can pretty safely assume those dimensions are correct.

I haven't seen them where did you get that impression?
In Post #69 it says I am going down on Tuesday so sorry can't help you until I've seen them.

brewerhooer

@Shanna, Thanks for that. I have a decent sized shed and I estimate that I can fit 4-5 standard pallets in there. Its got double doors out to the street too so should be good. If this does grow we may need to consider more storage space but for now I will look after that aspect.

I am part of the bottle GB so I am also interested in confirming that we can fit those bottles into these crates and stack them. I don't have any swing top bottles myself at the minute so I have no idea as to their size generally so can't guestimate it.

Just looking at that brochure from the German manufacturer, they have a crate model #F13 (page 105) that holds 20x500ML swingtop bottles for €5.94 a piece with free delivery(but I imagine the free delivery is Germany only?surely) but still that's not too bad. Will be interested to hear what they come back to you. If they get back can you ask them about delivery costs to Ireland OR forward their mail onto me and I will take over.  ;D

I will certainly need some help/advice on this with organising the payments and such so thanks for the offer... I will take you up on that.

@Ciderhead, we will wait to hear from you re the size of the bottles before we go much further on this as I think once we confirm that they will fit we may have a lot more interested.

Cheers.

Cool sounds good.  Great way to get to know people is to organise a group buy. That German crowd have a UK online site from which I downloaded the brochure so I would think the offer of free delivery is within the UK only. Generally speaking the plan is to get a list started to gauge the level of interest based on a price per crate, including transport, taxes and contribution to the club bank account.

Using the club account incurs a nominal charge to cover the cost of a transaction to put money into the account. This is pretty standard now and usually a euro cent amount is agreed with the club to track each transaction and this is added in to the final total. E.g say 10 crates costs €56, transport for 10 crates is €20 (€100 per pallet of 50 crates) €1 for bank account transaction and 9 cent to act as a transaction tracker. Total cost is then €77.09.

Previously when I did the keg group buy I created a google doc spreadsheet to track volumes,  item type, transport and transaction charges and got people to update it with the details of when they have paid. If and when all of the cash is collected then you arrange to have a meeting proforma invoice generated in your name and to be delivered to your address. You should get the vendors bank account details. You then get the club to transfer the required amount to the vendor.

Best when the time comes decide a limit on the number of pallets you want to ship and see if there is sufficient interest. If there is more interest than pallets then maybe consider adding more pallets. Have to see how it will pan out. I was even thinking that to simplify the group buy that you limit the purchase to only the 20*500ml bottles cases so that you can charge a uniform amount for transport.

I think based on Eoins comments we can assume that the cases will have the dimensions he. Before this goes any further I would if you agree get this thread moved to the members only area by a moderator to keep it for members only.

@Ciderhead
In your post #70 I presumed your answers and photos came from an inspection. Anyways answers on Tuesday.
Thanks for effort so far.

Shanna

Got the following response from the German supplier

"Goo dmorning,

Thank you for you rinterest in our products.

I inform you that we have a minimum quantity order of 10 000 units for our bottle crates.

Best regards

Veronika Schmelmer
Key-Account-Manager"

I got the feeling from the tone of the res p onse that she quoted the 10k figure as a polite form of brush off. I asked her in a follow up email whether she can introduce me to a supplier who might deal in smaller volumes. I also explained that we are a club with bank account that we can use to pay for orders and that we have done bulk purchase of grain, hops,  kegs etc direct from suppliers in the past so there is experience of handling large pallet based orders. Have not gotten a response yet though. If they don't come back I will follow up alternate suppliers from the original thread.

10,000 units = 143 pallets! :o

I don't think they want to be dealing with the likes of us by the sounds of it?

Thanks for trying anyway.

Shanna

It might be v so but I kind of thought from the mail they might not think we are very serious hence my follow ups. Have had similar with yeast manufacturers when contacting them direct.  Must big suppliers will have smaller distributors that would deal with smaller orders.  I queried this with them and I hope they will get back to me.

Have not given up on this.
