I have a spare under counter fridge that I am going to use to replace my other fridge that has a date with a high rise hotel room  >:( :( :-[ :'(. I will use this as my kegerator and was wondering if it would be OK to lye it on it back instead of upright. The advantage for me is to get better use of this as my 4 corney's will stand in it easy and it will fit into the cabinet I had originally bulit. :-\

Would it overheat? or are you keeping it raised off the ground?

With the cooling grill on the ground I will raise it to allow it to vent

The compressors on fridges only work in one orientation i.e. upright as intended

That is why it says "if you transport the fridge/freezer non-upright wait 24 hours for the compressor oil to go back where its sposed to be".

Else you smash the compressor!

and dempsey...the frige in my garage that you drilled is cooled by the pipes in the outer casing ( the whole fridge heats uop.. the cold bits are actually on the inner casing.

Note there is no grilly thing on your ice cream fridge at all, the fridgey thing is not a normal grill but a set of pipes inside the outer aluminum casing.
if tou enclose this in your cabinet it cant cool so 2 results,
1 ur fridge will be fierce hard on juice,
2 u burn out the compressor thru overheating
3 especially in your ice cream frifge the compressor colling fan was bunched/

so think about putting the fridge in the your wooden bar and how it will cool.

and will is right fridge compressors I think work on an oil sump in the compressor and it must be kept upright

Fridge compressor - think car engine and sump.
Cars don't run on their sides so well.

Ye want to see it now. Looks like I let mythbusters get at it with dynamite :)
