My reason for bringing it up is that maybe newer brewers (and there are quite a lot it seems) might think there is no point entering a kit beer cos they'll have no chance of winning.

We could offer an incentive for kit brewers. Say, an extra prize of some nhc merchandise if a kit wins.
No all grain brewers allowed to enter a kit as it's designed to get newer brewers to be creative.

I'll give it a go. Do I need to be a BJCP member do you know? I'll have to pay the fees myself?

delzep

Registered and paid.

Can recoup the fee with the winnings  8)

Anyway, I think that non members can enter...and I'd like entries restricted to two per person max so that someone sitting on a load of brews for the nationals isn't gonna flood the comp to see how their beers are

No harm but a restriction means the brewer will think about what to enter rather than submit any oul shite they have lying around.
Dodge is fine to bring whatever he likes to taste but limit of two in the competition.

What harm if they do, especially if they're dodge's beers ;)

are you a judge, or a dregs hoarder?

I suppose the usual two bottles (1 litre) per entry would be required yeah? Is there some software that can be used for registration and collation of entries?

Actually hows about a list of rules. If anyone has an issue with any of them, let me know

  • Maximum of 50 beers in total
  • Maximum of 2 beers per entrant
  • Entry is open to both members and non members on a first come, first served basis
  • 1 litre of beer for each entry is required for judging (2 x 500ml or 3 x 330ml)
  • All judging to BJCP standards
  • €2 per entry..winner takes all
  • Might try to squeeze a few pints from the Lucan County for second and third place (TBC)
  • Entries are open to all personel involved with the organising and running of the competition (judges/organisers/registrar/stewards etc.)

any advance on those?

Whats the story with the number of judges required? If theres more judges than required I suppose they shouldn't be turned away as they get points for judging plus it makes the whole operation easier, but is there a recommended number for 50 beers? I had a quick flick through the organisers handbook thing, but I had a couple of beers beforehand...

Put me down for two entries so... just for the 'Pig Iron' Im doin a standard kit and an all-grain entry  My mission is the ye cant tell the difference :) ;) :D

Would the and or extract brewers like a seperate judging table for kits versus all grain?  Is this not do-able or do we want to compare and contrast great kit brewing versus maybe average all grain brewing?  Could a kit win if all entries are in same group?

delzep

Judges judge by style rather than by brewing method no? Would take twice as many judges (and maybe twice as long) surely?

Saruman (Reuben Gray)

All for one and one for all and all that....

Everyone is treated equally.

Regarding judges, we should get everyone involved but just saying... since this is a Liffey Brewers event, our own are guaranteed judging spots  ;)
