A BJCP registered competition, open to everyone, limited to 50 entries. €2 an entry, winner takes all.

Judging on Saturday Feb 1st in the Lucan County (subject to permission). Registration will be in advance but you'll be able to bring your beers on the day (probably).

A dry run for the nationals maybe even!

Sounds like fun. We should do it like twisted pepper and summer session. Split the judging between two tables.

We should have the LB BJCP judges doing our thing. We can also enter beer as long as it ends up on the other table.

If one of our beers gets through to the best in show, we recuse ourselves.

Is it worth having a separate kit competition on the day to encourage newer brewers to participate?

Saruman (Reuben Gray)

Maybe, though it does the opposite of inclusion when you separate them from other brewers.
Hard to say.

The hacked kits did quite well in last years competition. If people identified whether their entry was a kit or not you could still reward the top scoring kits without keeping it separate.

it's kinda like thinking 'here is a bicycle race, but only high nellies are allowed enter. maybe we should have a separate race for bmx'
if it's BJCP registered, the emphasis should be on the end result as opposed to how the winner got there.
In judging end result beer according to the style, why take ingredients and method into consideration?

Surely if a kit won (zomg... heaven forbid the thought!) it would result in more of the common people taking up brewing as their new addiction hobby.

Will_D

I agree that it should be based on the end product.

A special mention should go to a kit beer straight up or tweaked.

To that end on the entry form can we include a production method:

AG / Extract / Kit

My reason for bringing it up is that maybe newer brewers (and there are quite a lot it seems) might think there is no point entering a kit beer cos they'll have no chance of winning.

Will_D

If we don't get many newbies entering then why not hold a kit/extract comp with a proviso that previous medal winners/high scorers can not enter?

A competition sticky in the new members forum telling them about the comp and that it's open to all levels of experience might help
