Hey all,

I've been told everyone on this site is friendly and helpful so how do!

Myself and 2 friends are looking to start brewing soon! we were going to start with kits but I've been told we're just as well to go to extract and then straight to grain after a few of them!

We're going to put our order for equipment in soon, but this stuff has turned up in one of the lads garages and I was wondering if somebody could help identify it! I think its a fermentation vessell and a keg, am i right?! And if so, what more do we need to get to get started? A tank of CO2?

Looking forward to getting started! :)

Welcome to the forum  ;D

The one on the left is indeed a fermentation vessel and the one on the right is a barrel, which you'd use for dispensing beer although I'm not sure if you can use a tank of CO2 on that or if you'd have to use disposable cartridges
Give a man a beer, waste an hour. Teach a man to brew, and waste a lifetime!

Great, thanks a million I'll see what else i can find out about it!

We're all from Skerries but I'm living in Inchicore, so not sure if we'll be brewing in Skerries orInchicore yet!

You'll also need a stirring paddle, hydrometer, trial jar, some tubing to fit the tap.
If you want to hoook up co2, get someone to identify that brass fitting for you. (take a photo of that cap and fitting)
A bottle of thin bleach and a bottle of spirit vinegar.
A couple of muslin bags and a bag of marbles.
Finally a beer kit. Try the Coopers Australian Pale Ale or Irish Stout to start with.

Temperature control like an STC100, brewbelt and fridge is advised.
A second bucket for secondary, bulk priming and bottling would be good.

If you move to extract, you'll also need a boiler (gas will need a burner, lines, fittings gas tank) or a very large pot.

If you move ont all grain afterwards, you'll also need a mash tun and thermometer.

If you plan on bottling beer, you'll need beer bottles, caps and a capper.
If you plan on kegging you'll need cornies, gas tank, regulator, disconnects, lines and taps.

How far you want to go is all up to you, your wallet and your time.

That should give you plenty to google. And there's more i've missed or skipped.
You probably don't know what half of it is yet, so ask away or browse through the forums and google for a while.

Welcome to the forums, it's a slippery slope... :D
