Hi All

It is about the right time of year, so does anyone have any hop shoots they are willing to part with? I am looking for particularly cascade but anything would do me to start off with. I am willing to pay for these and postage.

Cheers

Don't worry Danny, I was talking to Mick last week and he says he'll have more soon.
Possibly other varieties as well.
(You can always try next year  :P )
Bad day brewing is better than good day working.

Is there an English version of the eickelmann.de site? I'm sure there was last year but can't find it now. Nein sprechen deutsch  :-[

worked for me just then. But I'm not buying any more hops this year. NOT EVEN if a good one comes along.

Ordered rhizomes from www.essentiallyhops.uk on Tuesday (Cascade, Hallertau and Fuggles), received them today, in the ground about an hour later.  Not cheap, 20stg for delivery and Parcel Motel on top of that, but they are fast and efficient, and they're actually available, which is the most important thing right now.  Pretty sure I got the link from Garry in a thread about this a few months ago, so cheers for that.
Any info on what varieties are likely to do well?

Ciderhead

Do you not have to protect them with a cloche if something till the weather improves?

+1 ish...
They should be OK outdoors this time of year.
Stick them in the ground and get them used to their new home.
Once they're under a few inches of earth, frost will unlikely get at them.

Any cuttings doing the rounds? There was a good few last year wasn't there?

Dr Horrible

Have the tips under about an inch of earth plus the moss they came in above to keep them warm.  Although I've never planted them before, the impression I got was that they can handle the cold so long as the buds aren't above the ground to get frost damage, so similar to potatoes in that way - they won't come up until it's warm enough.  That's only a guess though, reckon I'll find out soon enough!
