Thread Merging

It was again pointed out yesterday how difficult it is to find information in the fora.

For example the question at 7am yesterday was "Where is the exam was being held"!

Threads split off, some get less use than others, some more so. Then a new thread is started. Sometimes a different forum is used.

This becomes a major search problem. We know the engine is not the best, if you try to be specific it doesn't find anything, the more geneneral the terms the greater the number of hits.

So I would propose that in the case of a thread like the BJCP exam some failry tight control should be execised. If a thread splits for no good reason it should be merged back in.

Now, after the next few days, the BJCP threads will go very quiet. Now is the time to merge all related threads into one and call it BJCP_Feb_2014

Comments please?

On the subject of the competition, surely there should be a dedicated post on the front page giving all the relevant settled information for judges, stewards and competitors alike (once all the details have been discussed and settled in the various separate threads). Am I right?

It is a recurring problem. Maybe when a info thread is started it shoud be in a different color and a locked sticky.

Not really
The judges don't come into it as they are briefed on the day and communicated to by mail.
Cara has posted a summary thread already for the stewards, and they too will be briefed 30 minutes before judges show up on the day.
All the competitor info is on the comp area where you log your entries.

The only significant piece of information outside this is the dispensation to members for 330s and that is in the members area.
